Open source

Free apps you can read, change and keep

We think software should be free: free to use, to read, to change and to share. Plenty of paid apps and suites can be replaced by open tools that do the same job without a subscription. These two apps started as tools for our own training. They are now open source under the GPL, for anyone to use.

  • Free to use and change

GPL licensed. Read the code, fork it and ship your own version, as long as it stays open.

  • Local first

Your training data stays on your phone, and both apps work offline.

  • No accounts, no tracking

No sign up, no analytics, no ads.

BaseMile

A Zone 2 running coach that builds your aerobic base, one easy run at a time.

BaseMile covers the cardio days of the Foundational Fitness week: Long, Medium and Brief runs, coached by heart rate so easy days stay easy, then turned into trends that show your aerobic base growing week by week.

  • Long, Medium and Brief runs, with targets from your own heart rate and a MAF ceiling on easy days
  • Live heart rate from any standard Bluetooth strap, tested with the Garmin HRM-Dual
  • A voice coach that runs on the phone and speaks up when you drift out of zone
  • Route maps, pace, MAF trends and training load after every run, with no account and your data kept on the phone

PlateClimb

The Foundational Fitness week from Huberman's Protocols, as a free workout app that runs offline.

PlateClimb runs one 12 week plan built on the weekly structure Andrew Huberman describes in Protocols: legs, torso, and shoulders and arms days between long, medium and intense cardio. Log your sets and it fills in the weights for next time. Your workouts stay on the phone.

  • Two six and five week blocks, heavier then higher reps, followed by a week off
  • Sets, reps, rest and effort targets for every lift, with swaps when a machine is taken
  • Weights filled in from your last session, with a photo and a video link for each exercise
  • No account and no server: your workouts stay on your phone
