What do booking platforms really cost you?

How it is calculated

Commission each year = bookings per year × average booking value × share through OTAs × (commission rate + visibility extra).

Kept each year = the OTA revenue you move to direct × (commission rate + visibility extra, minus payment processing).

The result leaves out what it costs to win those direct bookings, such as your website, a booking engine or marketing. Weigh those against it.

As of October 2026, OTA commission is commonly 15% to 18%, and higher with visibility programmes. The rate in your own contract is the one that counts.
